Kimono Care Guide.
Our kimonos are made from vintage and pre-owned Japanese textiles. With gentle care, they can be worn and enjoyed for many years.
General Care
Kimonos do not need frequent washing. In most cases, airing is sufficient.
-
After wearing, hang your kimono in a well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight.
-
Allow it to rest before storing.
-
Avoid heavy perfumes or oils directly on the fabric.
Washing
We recommend avoiding machine washing unless explicitly stated on the product page.
-
Spot clean gently if needed.
-
If washing is unavoidable, hand wash in cold water with a mild detergent.
-
Do not wring or twist.
-
Lay flat or hang to air dry.
If you are unsure, professional dry cleaning is the safest option.
Silk & Delicate Fabrics
Many kimonos are made from silk or delicate blends.
-
Handle with care.
-
Avoid heat, tumble drying, and prolonged exposure to moisture.
-
Natural creases and texture are part of the fabric’s character.
Storage
-
Store in a cool, dry place.
-
Avoid plastic bags; breathable fabric covers are best.
-
Keep away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.
-
For longer storage, folding is preferable to hanging.
Vintage Nature
Due to their age and history, some kimonos may show subtle signs of wear. These are not defects, but part of the garment’s story.
Any significant flaws are always disclosed on the product page.
Product-Specific Notes
Some kimonos may have specific care considerations. These will be noted on the individual product page where relevant.
